Short Term 12 - Guest Blog by Destin Cretton
Guest Blog by Destin Cretton, director of Short Term 12.
Since it premired at SXSW Festival in Austin, Texas, (winning both the Audience and the Grand Jury Awards) Short Term 12 has been traveling from one festival to another, and so has its director, Destin Cretton. When the film premiered at the BFI London Film Festival on the 15th of March, he wrote a guest blog for us in form of journey diary about his experience of coming to the UK:
October 11. 14:32: Arrived in London airport with a knot in my lower-back that formed during the 10 hour flight from Los Angeles. My girlfriend (Nikki) and I were greeted with perfect English weather: damp and cozy, perfect for Welly hikes and movies. We spent the weekend bouncing around Kent; visiting the Dickens House museum, eating apples straight from the branch, and hanging with Nikki's lovely family.
October 14. 11:13: Drove up to London, took a night stroll through a park, said hello to Buckingham Palace, and had a delicious dinner at a restaurant that was co-owned by Michael Caine, where I ordered the wrong drink and ended up with something that looked like a pink slushy.
October 15. ALL DAY: I spent most of the day having some lovely conversations with a handful of journalists. I realized fairly quickly that reporters in England ask really great questions, which made the day fly by. That night, we had the premiere of Short Term 12 at the BFI London Film Festival. Nikki's entire family took the train up from Cliffsend & Ramsgate to watch the film for the first time. It was a wonderful screening that sparked some really great conversations afterwards. Then we all gathered for some wine & beer, which sparked some even greater conversations late into the night.
All in all, it was a magical trip to England, and the perfect premiere for Short Term 12.

Short Term 12 UK Premiere
Short Term 12 premiered in the UK on Tuesday the 15th, as part of this year's BFI London Film Festival.
The film’s lead actor Brie Larson and director Destin Cretton joined us for a Q&A afterwards, thrilled by the rave response of the audience.
After the screening, we all headed to the after party to celebrate the success of the Premiere.
Check out the pics of the after party below and some great twitter-reactions of the screening:
Q&A with Brie Larson and Destin Cretton at the 'Short Term 12' UK Premiere

Written and directed by Destin Cretton, Short Term
12 is told through the eyes of Grace (Brie Larson), a twenty-something
supervisor at a foster-care facility for at-risk teenagers.
Short Term 12 was the toast of this year’s South by Southwest (SXSW) festival, winning both the Grand Jury Prize in the Narrative Feature Competition and the Audience Award.

'WE SHALL OVERCOME' out on DVD the 22nd of JULY
It’s 1969 in provincial Denmark and 13 year old Frits is being bullied by his brutal headmaster as well as trying to cope with his father’s breakdown and keep his family together.
Listening to records of Martin Luther King’s speeches gives Frits the inspiration to fight back at the old world repressive regimes at work in his community and spread the winds of change.

POST TENEBRAS LUX to be released on DVD and Blu-ray on the 22nd of July
Yet isolation in this superficially idyllic rural landscape seems to have brought little peace to his world. Juan’s marriage to Natalia (Nathalia Acevedo) is suffering under the strain of sexual ennui, the banal rigors of bringing up young children and living in a community where he is clearly an outsider. The morality of family life is further complicated by Juan’s post-colonial Mexican ethnicity and position as an employer and elite landowner in a country with an increasingly divergent wealth divide.
