Sally El Hosaini won the 'Best Newcomer Award' at the London Film Festival. The MY BROTHER THE DEVIL director and screenwriter fought off stiff competition from Fady Elsayed who stars in the film.
The prize jury president, David Heyman, said: "Sally El Hosaini's writing and direction displayed a remarkable maturity. The film transcended its genre with lyricism and tenderness and possessed a wonderful emotional truth.".

MY BROTHER THE DEVIL has finally come back to London! The film premiered with a bang at Odeon West End, with all the main actors in attendance, including but not limited to James Floyd, Fady Elsayed (nominated for Best British Newcomer Award) and Letitia Wright. Artists contributing to the film’s soundtrack also walked the red carpet, including Bashy, Arnold Oceng aka Snakeyman and Cashtastic. Aymen Hamdouchi, film’s consultant, member of cast and a rising acting star received an honourable mention for his invaluable contribution from James Floyd and the director Sally El Hosaini, who sadly was hospitalized and could not attend. 'Red Sorghum' author Mo Yan of China wins Nobel Prize for Literature

We’re delighted and impressed that last week Mo Yan, author of the critically acclaimed and publicly loved novella ‘Red Sorghum’ has received the Nobel Prize for Literature, thus becoming the first Chinese resident artist to be recognised with this award. Drake’s Avenue is distributing the film of the same name based on Mo Yan’s novella, directed by Zhang Yimou and awarded the Best Film (Golden Bear) at the 1988 Berlin Film Festival. James' path to the Games was a winding road: first, an injury that complicated chances for a major sponsorship contract, then a few failed eBay bids, and finally a sponsorship deal from King of Shaves, a coach position in MetTrack programme to motivate young people through sport, and finally, qualification for the British Olympic squad. The estate was always controversial and became a symbol of urban decay, but also proved to be a venue of high art. Red Road, distributed by Verve Pictures, proved to be one of the most controversial and successful debuts by a British filmmaker.

Vidal Sassoon

All at Verve Pictures were very sad to hear of the tragic death of Vidal Sassoon yesterday.

We greatly enjoyed working with him last year - he was a wonderful man, very kind and an inspirational figure. We all feel very privileged to have met him.

The 84 year-old Vidal Sassoon CBE, passed away at his home in Los Angeles on 9th May. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 20 years Ronnie, his children, grandchildren, family and friends.

LAS ACACIAS wins the Sutherland Award at the London Film Festival

Las Acacias director Pablo Giorgelli followed up his award at Cannes by winning the prestigious Sutherland Award at the London Film Festival last night. A fantastic achievement for Giorgelli, whose film continues to win awards as well as high praise. See the BFI website here .
