Verve Pictures have acquired the UK rights for Destin Daniel Cretton’s award-winning feature Short Term 12 and Kelly+Victor, Kieran Evans’ adaptation of the acclaimed novel by Niall Griffiths.
Short Term 12 was the break out hit at the South by Southwest (SXSW) festival this year, winning both the Grand Jury Prize in the Narrative Feature Competition and the Audience Award.
Cretton's second feature, after 2012's I Am Not A Hipster, Short Term 12 is told through the eyes of Grace (Brie Larson - 21 Jump Street; Scott Pilgrim vs.The World; Don Jon), a twenty-something supervisor at a foster-care facility for at-risk teenagers. Passionate and tough, Grace is a formidable caretaker of the kids in her charge – and in love with her long-term boyfriend and co-worker, Mason (John Gallagher Jr – The Newsroom). But Grace’s own difficult past – and the surprising future that suddenly presents itself – throw her into unforeseen confusion, made all the sharper with the arrival of a new intake at the facility: a gifted but troubled teenage girl with whom Grace has a charged connection.

Kelly+Victor is a haunting, candid depiction of a young couple embarking on a passionate and transgressive love affair.
When Kelly (Antonia Campbell) meets Victor (Julian Morris) on the dance floor of a Liverpool nightclub, the attraction is instant. After wandering through the night they find themselves at her flat, making love with a passion and urgency that neither had experienced before. Both Kelly and Victor are struggling to get by as best they can, while the people around them are choosing illegal lifestyles; she is escaping a brutish former lover and her best friend is a dominatrix prostitute, while he is friends with two wannabe drug dealers. It’s when they get into bed with each other that their darker instincts take over.

Colin Burch, Managing Director of Verve Pictures commented "We are thrilled to be bringing Short Term 12 and Kelly+Victor to UK cinemas. There has been a lot of buzz around these two very striking and emotionally intense films, both of which are anchored by breakthrough performances.”

Both Short Term 12 and Kelly+Victor will open in cinemas in the UK in Autumn 2013.
