My Brother the Devil has put the spotlight on writer/director Sally El Hosaini, who has been established as one of the UK’s boldest and brightest new filmmaking talents.

This week Hosaini’s debut feature was nominated in three categories at the forthcoming Evening Standard Awards, including Best Newcomer for El Hosaini and star James Floyd whilst cinematographer David Raedeker was nominated for a Technical Achievement Award.  The film has also been nominated for three Critics’ Circle Awards, making it a clear jury favourite.

Released in UK cinemas in November last year, and out on DVD and Blu Ray on March 18, My Brother the Devil has now picked up major awards at Berlin, Sundance, Outfest and The British Independent Film Awards. Hosaini herself was also recently the winner of Best British Newcomer at The London Film Festival and the Newcomer Award at The Women in Film & TV Awards.

Also singled out for their performances in My Brother the Devil are rising stars James Floyd and Fady Elsayed. Floyd was awarded Most Promising Newcomer at the British Independent Film Awards and is nominated for an Evening Standard Award and Fady Elsayed is nominated for a Critics’ Circle Award.

My Brother The Devil is a visually poetic coming-of-age story about two young British Egyptian brothers growing up on the streets of London.  Bold and uncompromising, it has an elegance and a poetry that sets it apart, and firmly establishes El Hosaini as a distinct and visionary voice in British cinema.

My Brother The Devil is a WILD HORSES FILM COMPANY and ROOKS NEST ENTERTAINMENT production, produced by Gayle Griffiths, Julia Godzinskaya, Michael Sackler and executive produced by El Hosaini and Mohamed Hefzy.
